AMZ's Movie Aliens vs. Pre-historic Real Beasts
By T. F. Powell
October 2009 - The more popular movie sites such as TotalFilm.com and I09.com often feature sci-fi lists that are entertaining reads, and we even showcase a few of their lists here. A few months ago TotalFilm.com featured the article "Movie Aliens vs. Real Animals." It is more of a humorous match-up and they even mix in some silliness with odd pairings for an amusing article.
Which is great for that avenue, but I wanted to see something a little more on the serious side, match-ups that were a bit more bad ass.
So I decided to compile a part two of their article sans my dry humor and focus instead on match-ups that lean . . . . .

Blast From The Past: Retro-Aliens - 1950's
Giant heads, giant eyes, and giant beasts ruled the screen.
By T. F. Powell
The fifties ushered in some of the most cheesiest, yet glorious alien creatures in the history of sci-fi film. Some hold the opinion that the popular onslaught was in part spawned from military air and naval personnel reporting strange sightings during World War II.
The preceding decades were peppered with alien narrative, so the fifties were clearly not the birth of our beloved fictional entity. However, the World War II sightings combined with the dawn of the atomic age, set in motion a grim reality humans had never faced before. We now have the capability to destroy our entire species (and most likely all the other species of Earth). Perhaps our own egos nurtured . . . .

History of science fiction films
Source: wikipedia.org
The history of science fiction films parallels that of the motion picture industry as a whole, although it took several decades before the genre was taken seriously.
Since the 1960s, major science fiction films have succeeded in pulling in large audience shares, and films of this genre have become a regular staple of the film industry.
Science fiction films have led the way in special effects technology, and have also been used as a vehicle for social commentary. . . . .

The Flawed Art of Futuristic Movies
By Dean Poling | Excerpt: valdostadailytimes.com
Going by “Terminator: Salvation” and all “Terminator” standards, the world will be run by machines in a few years. Watching these movies, even the old Arnold Schwarzenegger movies about this hopefully fictional future, a viewer cannot make a real comparison about what is likely right or wrong in the scenario.
In the “Terminator” future, everything that we know is in shambles. But watch a science-fiction movie like “Blade Runner,” for example, and certain potential flaws about the story’s supposed future become obvious. . . . .

John Scalzi Explains Star Wars 3D
By John Scalzi | Excerpt: amctv.com
Last year word leaked out that George Lucas had a plan to re-release all six Star Wars movies in 3D, so that finally you could have the Death Star explode right in your lap (or alternately, get a full tongue experience from Jar-Jar Binks).
This news has inevitably led to people asking why Lucas might do such a thing. After all, it's not as if he's hard up for cash; he'll not be re-releasing these flicks to make the mortgage payment on Skywalker Ranch. . . . .
